Pursuit of Happiness...
"See, I think drugs have done some *good* things for us, I really do. And if you don’t believe drugs have done good things for us, do me a favor: go home tonight and take all your albums, all your tapes, and all your cd’s and burn em’. 'Cause you know what? The musicians who’ve made all that great music that’s enhanced your lives throughout the years...
Rrrrrrrrrrrrreal fucking high on drugs."

So everyone knows today is the birthday of an
infamous dictator, the
anniversary of a tragic massacre and the celebration of a
certain practice that dates back to 3rd Millennium BC. But that's old news so I've compiled a list of some other interesting things that occurred on this day.
The
Civil Rights Act of 1871 becomes law (you know, kind of a big deal).
Western Electric and
Warner Bros. announce
Vitaphone, a process to add sound to film on this day in 1926. On this day in 1567,Â
Freedom of religion is granted to the
Jews of
New Amsterdam (now known of course as
New York City). On April 20th, 1986,
Michael Jordan sets all-time record for points in an NBA playoff game with 63 against the
Boston Celtics. It's also the birthdays of
Muhammad (Prophet and founder of Islam),
Francois "Papa Doc" Duvalier (Haitian president, something about this day and violent dictators I guess), and the now retiring Supreme Court Justice
John Paul Stevens.
