Cinco de Mayo...

There are few things more distinctly American than getting absolutely wasted on otherwise meaningful holidays.  Most of us spend Memorial Day, a celebration of our veterans of World War II (and wars since) near a grill and/or a beach waist deep in alcoholic beverages. The same could be said for the day which we celebrate our independence from the British. Hell, even holidays like Christmas and Thanksgiving, we find ourselves in the nearest bar as soon as we can sneak away from our familial responsibilities. I can't stop banging my head to this tune, so I decided you all need to have it! The producer is Bare Noize, and the tune is a remix of M'Black's Heartbreak. Heartbreak (Bare Noize Remix) Finally if anyone is interested you can check out the original here.

Le Castle Vania :: Bulletproof Tiger Mixtape

Le Castle Vania has finally done... a mixtape!  Congratulations on making it as far as you have gotten and never once put out a mix out.  If you are a fan of Le Castle Vania then you have been anticipating this release just as much as I have.  I was blown away when I downloaded thing beast and saw that it was an hour and a half long.  Where most mixes around between 20-30 mins and consist of an artist's top picks of their favorite tracks, Le Castle Vania puts together a mix that is 75% of his own work and taste to give us a true representation of what of us to expect at the LCV "rockshow". Enjoy :: Le Castle Vania :: Bulletproof Tiger Mixtape

Pursuit of Happiness...

"See, I think drugs have done some *good* things for us, I really do. And if you don’t believe drugs have done good things for us, do me a favor: go home tonight and take all your albums, all your tapes, and all your cd’s and burn em’. 'Cause you know what? The musicians who’ve made all that great music that’s enhanced your lives throughout the years... Rrrrrrrrrrrrreal fucking high on drugs." Bill Hicks [kml_flashembed movie="http://www.youtube.com/v/7xzU9Qqdqww" width="425" height="344" allowfullscreen="true" fvars="fs=1" /] So everyone knows today is the birthday of an infamous dictator, the anniversary of  a tragic massacre and the celebration of a certain practice that dates back to 3rd Millennium BC.  But that's old news so I've compiled a list of some other interesting things that occurred on this day. The Civil Rights Act of 1871 becomes law (you know, kind of a big deal). Western Electric and Warner Bros. announce Vitaphone, a process to add sound to film on this day in 1926. On this day in 1567,  Freedom of religion is granted to the Jews of New Amsterdam (now known of course as New York City). On April 20th, 1986, Michael Jordan sets all-time record for points in an NBA playoff game with 63 against the Boston Celtics. It's also the birthdays of Muhammad (Prophet and founder of Islam), Francois "Papa Doc" Duvalier (Haitian president, something about this day and violent dictators I guess), and the now retiring Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens.

Snowblind...

Crystal world with winter flowers, Turn my days to frozen hours... Lying snowblind in the sun, Will my ice age ever come?

"My eyes are blind but I can see... the snowflakes glistening on the trees"

In all of my years as a hedonist, and routine drug user, I've never really understood the enduring appeal of cocaine. Even during my seven month relationship with blow a few years back when I was regularly snorting bumps off of my American Express card in dive bars and heavy metal shows, in the back of my mind, I wondered what the big deal was. Cocaine is the second most popular recreational drug in the United States (behind marijuana you fucking stoners) and in the scene, it's everywhere... easily obtained and I know several people who use it on a regular basis. After being made illegal in 1914 by the Harrison Narcotics Tax Act, cocaine regained popularity in the decadent, party all night disco days of the 70's. Back then, the allure of blow went beyond its stimulative effects. The cost, more expensive (though higher in quality) than it is now (3.5 grams in Atlanta would probably run you about $120 dollars) made cocaine a status drug. To be able to afford it, let alone a steady supply of it, meant you likely made (or had access to) a lot of money.

Icicles are in my brain (cocaine)

"Icicles are in my brain (cocaine)"

In the 70's and 80's, cocaine was mostly consumed by celebrities, athletes, stockbrokers and socialites. By the time coke made a comeback at the turn of the millennium, upper middle class college students were taking turns doing bumps in frathouse bathrooms. Now, at any bar or dance party across the country, you can regularly see packs of hipster girls and sorostitutes making steady trips to powder their noses. Read more
