Victoria Beckham Acid-Washed Jeans

You got an old pair of jeans that you still fit into, but the wash or color of the denim keeps you from wearing them as much as you want? Or maybe you got an old denim jacket that just gathers dust in your closet, and you realized that if you added a little spunk to it, you might take that old thing out of retirement…Well if you wanna spark up your old denim and make it so flashy that you will want to wear them all day everyday, then get on the acid-washed denim kick! Acid-wash is very trendy right now and is a good way to make your apparel yours. I acid-washed two pairs of my denim shorts (one almost black denim pair and a medium blue jean pair). I also bleached an old pair of dark, dark jeans and an old Levi’s jean jacket that I found for $4 at a thrift store. I wanted to give them each a different look and a raw edge, and I was noticing what Rihanna and Kim Kardashian and all of the other Hollywood fashionistas were wearing, which was a stand out, rocker style with this acid look everywhere! I’ve seen splot-bleached leggings, 80′s style bleached jean jackets, acid-washed jeans, dresses….This retro look is definitely back and on attack. I’m so not willing to spend an insane amount of money to get this effect, so I thought a DIY project would get the job done. After I finished this project, I knew a FYI blog was a must for sure because I am in LOOVE with all of my bleached garments now. They are DEFINITELY out of hiding!! Here’s a step-by-step process to achieve the look like Victoria Beck’s acid-washed dark denim jeans in this picture, but along with a million other optional methods for bleaching. The effects you can make with bleaching are endless. It’s your masterpiece, so don’t stop short and make it your own!

Materials you will need:

-Bleach (Clorox or generic brand is fine)

-Latex gloves (a MUST)

-Bucket

-Water

-Rubber bands (for different bleach effects)

-Pumice stone and/or porous sponge (also for different bleach effects)

-Spray bottle (again, for different effects)

Ok first thing first, make sure you are in an area where bleach can splash and it not be a big deal (i.e. I got bleach on my black rug and now I have yellow spots on it!) Also wear old clothes in case you go bleach-happy everywhere. I went out on the concrete in my backyard, which was a good idea because you can also see the effect taking place under the sunlight.

You will need to get your denim wet, so run water until the denim is wet but not soaked. Ring the garment out so that it is just damp and not dripping wet.

This is the point where you get to choose which method you would like to do, and this will determine your outcome on the denim…I will show you a list of effects and you can choose which you like.

You only have 15 minutes or so to get this done, because after a while the bleach starts to wear on the fabric and can be very damaging to your garment and your work of art! You will actually feel the bleach getting warm on your garment as it sits, and if you ring the bleach out you will see red or blue dripping from the clothes. Watch the denim closely over this time because you may want to add more bleach in certain areas. If you want it lighter or more bleached, just keep pouring that bleach…but make it snappy!

When you are happy with your results carefully take your garments to the washer, set on a normal cycle and VOILA you are done! A few tips: I washed my garments twice, and in with a LITTLE amount of detergent. The Clorox smell is very overwhelming so watch out, and don’t inhale too much! Open windows if you are doing this inside, and remember to wear your gloves.

EFFECTS:

-You can lay the denim down and just pour the bleach straight from the bottle onto it, this will make bleached lines up and down your jeans, and that way you can control everywhere you want the bleach to appear.

-You can use a spray bottle to give it more of a dotted and graffiti type of look

- You can use a pumice stone and soak it in bleach and you can also choose where to put the bleach on the jeans that way. You can rub or splot. You can also use the sponge after you have poured the bleach directly onto the denim, to kind of give it a more spread look.

- If you like the hippie, tie-dye look, you can tie rubber bands sporadically around your garment and then pour the bleach on these areas. This affect is great, and makes your bleached spots pop. Look at Fergie’s jeans to see what I’m talking about.

-You may also try pouring bleach in your bucket and either crumpling your garment and dipping for a crazy look, or you can dip the entire garment to get the entire thing bleached.

P.S. You can go even further and add embellisments like spikes or bling to your new clothes, or you can also make rips in your jeans to add a little kick to this Kick Ass Rockstar denim. This look can be made with a cheese grater, sandpaper and/or razor blade. But that’s a whole ‘nother blog

HAVE FUN ROCKIN YOUR NEW DENIM!!

Spring fever is everywhere and with it comes the anticipation of all the hot new warm trends that will hit the stores. The hottest got-to-have item in my spring wardrobe is definitely the super sexy and fun peep-toe boots. I will be racking up on as many different colors and styles as possible…and thankfully, designers have been so creative in crafting out these shoes this year that the selection is endless! Peep-toe boots can be worn with basically any form of outfit- casual, trendy, dressy, or classy.

The great thing about these boots is that it’s a good transition style from winter to spring. You know for the last month or so we’ve wanted to rock some new kicks, but it’s still just a little too cold to break out the sandals so this is the perfect solution! It’s a boot, but it shows just enough toe that it completely changes the feel and direction of the shoe from warm and winter to sexy and spring! Peep-toe boots still have a classy vintage feel which is what the past few seasons, fashion-wise, have been all about. Plus it’s guaranteed that this boot trend is a great bargain because they can be worn in the fall just as easily as in the spring.

The length of the boot also determines what type of outfits will look best paired with them. With the ankle boot you can wear anything from skinny jeans, a fun dress, or even stylish shorts or leggings. You can move higher to boots that stop along the mid-calf which are such a hit these days if you are going for the rocker look with ripped jeans or an old school dress or romper. You can also sport the boots that stop at the knee (or the above-the-knee boots which were a huge winter hit). My personal opinion is that the above-the-knee boots should be kept with the winter wardrobe, but there may be some cute exceptions! If you are looking for a fun and fresh change to your look, then this is my suggestion for a great buy this season, so keep an eye out for online stores or boutiques to start carrying this new style in footwear for spring.

Â

We all knew of the little theory that all styles come back around in a few decades, right? But we swore up and down that NO WAY will that ugly 80’s Rocker look- pleather, metallics, hot pink lips, and big hair- EVER come back. Well…were we wrong or what?? Admit it. If we are true fashionistas, then it’s true, we are all giving in to this rebirth of the 80’s era in some way or another. Whether it be the pleather (biker jackets, pants, leggings, skirts), maybe the embellishments (chains, studs, excessive zippers), or just the destroyed or acid washed denim. The 80’s was known as a time where it was “in” to stand out, “in” to be an outcast. Well it’s back. I personally find myself looking in my closet for the most edgy, creative, rocker- fierce garments I own and putting them together for an outfit that screams “Hardcore Vintage”. It’s great! I’m having fun with it- problem is…there aren’t too many websites that sell this true vintage feel. So, to make it a little easier on you, I put together a list of stores I’ve found online that I’m very fond of. Hope these help ya out on your search for fun rocker fashion! (I’ll add more sites as I discover them, so check back!)

Every season we see these fun trends coming and going that catch our eye for the moment. They may look oh so fashionable but not often enough…

Every season we see these fun trends coming and going that catch our eye for the moment. They may look oh so fashionable but not often enough do those passing trends have functionality and usefulness. I do believe, ladies and gents, that I found a stylish new accessory for this fall and winter that will have both girls and guys wondering where to find one of our sweet new accessories. And if all goes the way I’m thinking, you may be wearing ‘em for more than just this holiday season. You will be breaking these out for cold winters and chilly falls for years to come! Trends with longevity…who woulda thought??

So they call this thing a “snood”. I’ve heard they are calling it this because it’s a cross between a scarf and a hood, although I have no clue where the “n” came from. A snood is essentially a scarf that is a big circle (instead of one long piece). You can find them to be really big where you can wrap them a few times around your neck/chest/head. I’ve also seen them smaller where you just fit it over your head once. I own one of the smaller snoods and it is so wearable and comfy…not to mention very VERY useful. I’ve worn it as more of a scarf, but when the temperature drops a little more I’m definitely going to try out the hood typeof style. The runway was a fan of the snood this year but I do believe it is seeping down to the local stores where we can fit them in our budget. I bought mine at Forever 21 for $5.50!!! Take that Burberry! Here are a few pictures to show you the different variations. Grab you a snood and have fun with it! Fashionable and Functional….now that’s always $$$ well spent!

P.S. - AA Unisex Circle Scarf Definitely check out this American Apparel link…They are always great at creating pieces that can be used in a million different ways, and this scarf is another example!  Their prices are pretty affordable too. This scarf is a spin-off of the snood, but pretty much the same thing. The link has pics to show you the versatility of their Unisex Circle Scarf.
